OEM vs Aftermarket Windshield: What Actually Matters?
The best replacement windshield is not determined by the label alone. Fit, optical quality, sensors, camera brackets, acoustic layers and vehicle-specific features all matter.
OEM glass
OEM glass is supplied under the vehicle manufacturer's parts system or by an approved supplier for that vehicle application. It may be preferred in situations where exact branding, original specifications or insurer/manufacturer requirements matter.
Aftermarket glass
Quality aftermarket glass can be manufactured to fit the same vehicle application and may include required brackets, frits, sensors or other features. Quality and exact configuration can vary by manufacturer and part number.
What matters most
- Correct fit for the exact vehicle and body style
- Camera and sensor compatibility
- Acoustic, solar, heated or heads-up display features when equipped
- Optical quality in the driver's viewing area
- Proper installation and urethane bonding
- Calibration requirements for ADAS-equipped vehicles
